Luncheon Presentation: Protecting our Natural Resources
Time & Location
About The Event
In anticipation of Earth Day 2021, the Millville Chamber of Commerce
will be hosting a virtual presentation recognizing companies that are
"going the extra mile" to protect drinking water resources for future generations.
The Zoom session will begin at noon on Wednesday, April 21, a day before
Earth Day 2021.
In 2019, CU Maurice River was awarded a grant to implement eco-friendly
water management projects at four commercial sites in Millville.
This federal grant program is called the Delaware River Watershed
Conservation Fund and is administered by the National Fish and
Wildlife Foundation. Over the last two years, CU Maurice River has been partnering
with Rutgers Water Resources Program to install green infrastructure
at Cumberland Family Medical, Amcor Rigid Packaging, and First
United Methodist Church. Currently, we are gearing up for the next project!
This spring a system of rain gardens and upland pollinator spaces will be
installed in the WheatonArts entrance circle. This project will improve
water management and transform this lawn area into a space teaming
with birds, bees, and butterflies.
Cumulatively, these projects will recharge the drinking water resource
by 554,000 gallons per year and reduce contaminants such as suspended
solids, phosphorus, and nitrogen by 30 pounds.
Join us to hear testimonials from the business leaders themselves
and learn how these projects are helping them as well as the environment.
