There are a
variety of programs and initiatives designed to assist businesses
in the area with development and expansion of facilities as with
development and training of workforce's.
A choice selection
of new sites for business may be found at several industrial parks
located within Millville.
Millville is
part of an Urban Enterprise Zone, in which businesses are exempted
from state sales tax on certain products and services, construction
costs, furniture and equipment. In addition, retail customers pay
one-half the normal sales tax. New construction qualifies for a
5-year tax abatement. Employment tax credits, employee training
assistance and other financial assistance is also available.
The Millville
Airport is part of the Cumberland Empowerment Zone, and projects
developed on that spacious site may qualify for a variety of grants,
loans and special tax incentives that are available under the federal
program. A new 360-acre state-of-the-art industrial park will also
be developed on land adjacent to the airport.
Foreign Trade
Zone status is also afforded qualified businesses operating at the
Millville Airport site. Operations in the zone enjoy flexible and
favorable treatment, insofar as customs and duties are concerned.
Material may be imported duty-free, processed and made ready for
shipment to the customer before duty is paid.
The
City of Millville can coordinate arrangements for a variety
of local, regional and state financing sources available for development
in the area. The city also assigns staff teams to coordinate the
development process, in order to minimize delays in getting engineering,
planning and zoning approvals. In addition, the Millville Development
Corporation makes funding available at reduced interest rates for
projects in the downtown business district. The Cumberland County
Economic Development Office also administers loan programs for qualifying
existing and new businesses.
Job training
is available for businesses and workers from several local institutions.
Academic, continuing education and special employee training courses
are available at the Cumberland
County College. The College now offers both Associate and Bachelor's
Degree programs. It special training courses are tailored to meet
specific employment requirements of the client businesses. The Cumberland
County Technical Education Center offers many full-time, part-time
and evening courses in technology. Located on the Airport site,
the NJ
Academy of Aviation Science provides expert training in courses
leading to the certification of airframe and powerplant technicians.
